Evaluation Question 1
Develop and Challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Coventions-
Conventions are components found in texts which are found in almost every genre. Real media text use them in their products which allows the conventions to be associated with a certain genre this comes in handy as it separates genres from each other for the audience. so they are able to identify the genre/sub-genre and create their own expectations. It would have to be met for them to be of interest to the particular genre. This question focuses on all the conventions we used in our media products. This includes our magazine, poster and the trailer. We'll be comparing our work with real media texts to see how we either used , developed or challenged.

Todorov's Theory
Tzvetan Todorov –All stories start in a state of equilibrium, which is then disrupted, setting in a motion a chain of events. The resolution of the story is the creation of a new equilibrium.
Equilibrium, Disruption, Resolution
Equilibrium
The equilibrium is establishing a state of normality where you are. If a scene is in equilibrium, it is peaceful, there is no disruption. Disequilibrium
A loss or lack of equilibrium or stability, especially in relation to supply, demand, and prices. If a scene is in disequilibrium, it has been disturbed of its peace.

Equilibrium within Insidious
Establishing shot of the location and character to make the scene clear and to set the tone of the trailer. (0.19-0.28)
Disequilibrium within Insidious
My antagonist comes and attacks the protagonist causing disruption, I have a montage half way through of the antagonist dragging my protagonist. (1.25-1.40)
Equilibrium within my trailer
We show an establishing shot of the location, very similar to the RMT, this was to set the tone and show the peace before the disruption.(0.08-0.22)
Disequilibrium within my trailer
My antagonist comes and attacks the protagonist causing disruption, I have a montage half way through of the antagonist dragging my protagonist.

CAPTIONS
Captions are crucial to every trailer, they help to establish and understand the story without giving it away too much, they also give out the important information like when the film is going to be released and the films name. Captions are included in my trailer at (0.00-0.08) and (0.58-1.11).
CREDITS
I used credits in both my trailer and my poster. Credits are used to tell the audience the cast and what positions they played in the creation of this film. Horror films usually always have the credits at the bottom of the poster to ensure they don't distract the audience from the main image.
SOUND
My trailer uses conventional sounds of a horror trailer such as metal screech at ... to emphasise on setting the scene at the beginning of my trailer creating a feeling of unease and discomfort. I also have sounds like a boom sound effect to create fear at the scariest moments and to increase the effect of tension. Trailers like Insidious 3 and The Conjuring 3 use boom sound effects at intense points to enduce more fear among the audience.
LENGTH
The typical length of horror teaser trailers usually ranges between 1 minute – 1 minute 50 seconds. Therefore, a length within this range would be appropriate and most effective. For this reason I decided to use this typical convention and so the duration of my trailer is 1 minute 16 seconds. I felt this length was appropriate for our trailer as it is enough to give the audience an insight without revealing too much or becoming too confusing by being too long.
SETTING
The setting of my trailer was an old abandoned police station, this challenges the typical convention of a horror movie because most horror movies are set in large American styled houses (Paranormal Activity, Conjuring 2). This scene was therefore not achievable for us and so we had to consider and new appropriate scene making it
COSTUME/PROPS
The conventions used for the costume and props were typical to a horror trailer. To fit the genre, my antagonist is dressed in provocative clothing, showing a lot of skin on the upper half of her body, this represents her vulnerability and also a loss of innocence as she goes through puberty being a teenager, her clothes are also black further showing her innocence being lost. My antagonist is dressed in a white bloody top, this shows a snatch of innocence for the young girl to him, therefore causing the both of them to become impure. There is also a clear use of binary opposition, however i have challenged the typical opposition of the antagonist being in white to represent purity and the protagonist being in black to represent death and impurity.
EDITING
For the editing, I followed the general rule of a horror trailer. I started of with texture shots at the beginning of the trailer to set the scene and to give an idea of the location, this then led to the build up of the disequilibrium, then leading to my montage where the trailer ends. If you look at the image I have inserted above, you will notice that the majority of the chops are in the middle section.
POSTER
MAGAZINE
LIGHTING
For my trailer, I used low-key lighting to make my subject appear more dominant and to suit the typical horror mood which is dark and evil. Also the darkness indicates something bad might happen soon. The footage didn't start of dark however with the help of editing I managed to make it progressively darker.
